Our Favorite Frames

As many of you know, Foursided has a deep appreciation for beautifully hand crafted frames from yesteryear. In this post we bring you an impeccable hand crafted picture frame design made in the present.
These frames could be characterized as "mission", "arts and crafts", "prairie", or "adirondeck". The name "mission" was inspired by Joseph McHugh, a New York furniture maker and retailer, to describe his straight line rustic style furniture. His design was based on a chair that had been made for a church in San Francisco around 1894. The designs were influenced by the Spanish missions of the area, thus the term "mission style". "Arts and Crafts" was the European design name for a similar style. Other "similar" regional styles include "Prairie" from the Midwest and "Adirondeck" from Upstate New York.

We hope you enjoy these frames as much as we do.

KEEP OUT SIGN

We like to have fun with sign making at Foursided. Keeps us creative and all that.

This sign is made from vintage tin marquee letters. We have letters for every kind of sign you can think to make. We'll even do it for you. Oh my gosh! We make stuff, and find time to house giant chickens.

Tin Marquee Letters: $1 to $4 each, available at Foursided in Andersonville

KROWNS AND KODAKS

Couldn't resist these old Kodaks! There's something about old cameras from the 30's and 40's that just love to take up space on the swing set of my mind's playground. I don't care if they work and I'm not a camera aficionado. I obtained these because they were made in a time when assembly lines were a little more romantic and a lot less plastic. Just beautiful in or around your collections, on book shelves and mantels. Oh, and the great little crowns are just the tip of the crown iceberg from Peacock Park.

Cameras: $35 to $45 Each Available at All Stores
Crowns: $18 to $35 Each Available at Twosided and Foursided in Andersonville

Vintage Rings and Necklaces

Spoon Rings Baby! They're back with a vengeance at Twosided and Foursided. They've been back for awhile in case you've been living on Mars. Also in are vintage jewelry made from old watch parts. Eh, "It's been done," you might say. We'd say it too. But these pieces are one-offs of wonder, brought to you from San Francisco where we found the artists selling these. See how far we go to find you cool stuff? Hmm? Huh? Hmm? Huh?

Gnome Sweet Gnome

Featuring the NEW and IMPROVED garden gnome from Streamline Inc. If this guy was placed in your front yard, he'd soon be placed in someone's trunk and never to be seen again. So don't do that. Unless it's your private backyard, of course.
Nothing renews an old object like dipping it in a vat of shiny silver paint. Try it with your vintage kitchen blender...and Voilà! ART!

Putting In Our 44 Cents

Antique Postage Stamps, $.10 each.

With Valentine's Day and Christmas behind us, it may seem like you have little reason to write a card. There are birthdays on the horizon sure, and Mother's Day will be here before you know it, but allow your friends at Twosided and Foursided to give you this friendly reminder:

You don't ever need a reason to mail a card.

Have you ever opened your mailbox and found a card unexpectedly staring you in the face? What about coming home to find an envelope with your name on it sitting on the counter? How did it make you feel? Pretty darn good, right? Well, for the cost of a card - which is far less than the cost of a meal, a drink, or most other tokens - you can make someone's day. The best part? You don't even have to be there to do it.

That $.44 (or less if you send a postcard, more if you need your mail to travel across an ocean) can get your special note anywhere it needs to go. Don't feel daunted by the task, you don't need to write a novel - a funny or artful card with a "Hope you are well" or, "This made me think of you" will do the trick just fine.

We love that you read our blog, friend us on Facebook, and enjoy our Twitter Tweets, but don't underestimate the connections to be made in the analog world as well. Allow us to challenge you, dearest Foursided and Twosided fans, to step away from the computer for just a moment and write that card. Carve out a little time from your day to make someone else's day with a personal note just for the fun of it. You won't be sorry you did, and who knows, with a little luck, someone just might return the favor.

Greetings From Foursided!

The first postcard to be printed as a souvenir was made in 1893 advertising the World's Columbian Exposition - hosted right here in Chicago; since then, the fun of buying and mailing postcards has become an activity that most have partaken in at one time or another!

Your friends at Foursided in Andersonville have just acquired a treasure trove of vintage postcards from stateside destinations both big and small - ready to be mailed (some are blank!) or crafted into something fun. Want a piece of home from the state you grew up in, or need a bon voyage gift for a friend? Chances are we have a postcard with your name on it! Postcards are $5 each, and depict iconic images from each location. Grab a little piece of Americana today with these
